Chapter History

Great foresight and enthusiasm, coupled with the Bond of fraternity, motivated a number of Kappa men already residing in the Acadiana area, and a few others affiliated with local alumni chapters, to form a new alumni chapter.

One of the major factor factors behind the creation of Opelousas Alumni Chapter was demographic in nature.  A strong desire among Kappa men residing in Acadiana and the Bond of fraternity inevitably stimulated the need for an alumni chapter in this region of Louisiana.  Kappa men of Acadiana affiliated with alumni chapters were dispersed between chapters in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lake Charles, and ultimately desired to fellowship in the bond in the immediate vicinity. As a result, they pursued a plan to seek a charter for a new alumni chapter.

In time, an enthusiastic endeavor to secure an alumni chapter in Acadiana began among fourteen brothers initiated during their days as college students:  Brothers Richard B. Millspaugh, Arthur Giron, Lloyd Foote, Dr. Raymond J. Lockett, Newman Braud, Dr. August Terrance, Marvin Broussard, Benny Parker, Clifford Gauthier, John Guillory, Lawrence Emerson, Millard Guidry, Gesslar Norman, and Charles Guidry.  Through their efforts, the Opelousas (LA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was chartered by the Grand Chapter on December 17, 1961.

Through the years, the chapter witnessed intervals of substantial growth, and boasts a proud history of achievement, due to the outstanding leadership, commitment, and contributions of members, who have demonstrated a profound love of Kappa and what it represents.
